There are two giants in the plastic pipe product line: PE series and PVC series. Someone doubt which material is better, PE or PVC?What is the difference between PE pipe and PVC pipe?
PE is polyethylene plastic, the most common type of plastic. PE pipe, also known as high density polyethylene pipe, has high strength, high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, non-toxic, wear resistance and other characteristics, is widely used in water supply, drainage and water pipe manufacturing field. Because it does not rust, it is an ideal replacement for ordinary iron feed pipe.
The main component of PVC is polyvinyl chloride, adding other components can enhance its heat resistance, toughness, ductility, etc. PVC pipe is made of polyvinyl chloride resin, stabilizer, lubricant, etc., and then extruded by hot pressing. It is the first plastic pipe to be developed and applied. PVC pipe has strong corrosion resistance, easy bonding, low price, and hard texture, but it is only suitable for water supply systems whose conveying temperature does not exceed 45℃.
Production standards:
The standard of PE water supply pipe is GB/T13663-2000, and the standard of PVC water supply pipe is GB/T10002.1-2006. The standards have different requirements for the wall thickness and performance indicators of the two.
Strength comparison:
The strength of PVC is better than PE, and the toughness (impact resistance) of PE is better than PVC. PE can be used at minus 20 degrees (the internal fluid won’t freeze), the pipe is soft, and small-diameter pipes can be made into coils, while PVC pipes are hard and cannot be coiled.
Comparison of connection modes:
PE pipe with hot melt connection, the link is more firm, the strength is also high; The PVC pipe is connected with the wire buckle for small diameter, and the apron for large diameter. The safety performance of the connection is less safe, but it is convenient and fast, and the construction cost is lower.
price comparison:
Under the same pressure, PE pipe has thicker wall and more expensive price; while PVC is thinner and cheaper.
to sum up:
PE pipes are safe and non-toxic, and have better flexibility and impact resistance than PVC. They can be used as underground gas pipes and tap water pipes. As for PVC pipes, chloride ions will be precipitated after long term use. They are not suitable for tap water pipes and have poor impact resistance. It is used for gas pipelines, but PVC pipes are low in price and high in hardness, and are affected by the temperature. They are often used in drainage pipes and rainwater pipes.
The material determines the performance of the pipeline. The two are not directly comparable, and the scope of application is also different. You can choose according to your actual needs.
